Strategy

The case against redesigning everything

Full redesigns are expensive, slow, and frequently make things worse. When to refactor instead of rebuild.

A full redesign changes hundreds of variables at once. When conversion moves afterwards — up or down — you have learned nothing about why.

The hidden cost

Beyond the invoice: months without shipping, lost SEO equity on changed URLs, and a team that cannot iterate because everything is in flight at once.

When a redesign is genuinely right

Your positioning changed. Your audience changed. The underlying stack cannot support what you need. Those are real reasons. "It looks dated" usually is not.

The alternative

Sequence the work. Fix the highest-traffic page, measure, then move to the next. You ship value in week two instead of month five, and every change teaches you something.
